India will face Afghanistan in the upcoming one-off Test match, starting from June 6 at the PCA New Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. However, the world cricket miss a new superstar in the Test format since Virat Kohli stepped away from it.
However, former India cricketer Saba Karim has come up with a name that could rule purest format game for a very long time in the future. The former wicketkeeper batter believes that Shubman Gill can fill the void left by Virat Kohli in Test cricket.

Shubman Gill to fill Virat Kohli's shoes?
In an conversation with Star Sports, Karim opined that Gill's consistency in Test cricket shows his love towards the longest format. Notably, Gill who led India for the first time in Test cricket in a five-match series against England.
"He's able to realize that he can add so much value as a Test batter. For him to compete and perform with that kind of consistency, it clearly shows that Shubman Gill relishes Test cricket. I think he can be a great ambassador after Virat Kohli," said Saba Karim.

While leading GT to the final of the tournament, Gill enjoyed a wonderful individual campaign with the bat. The India ODI and Test skipper managed to amass 732 runs in just 16 games at an average of 45.75 at an aggressive strike rate of 163.02.
The right-handed batter smashed one century and six half-centuries in the 2026 season, with 104 off 53 balls against RR being his top score.
