Bengal vs Tripura Ranji Trophy 2025 Day 2 highlights
Bengal batter Sudip Kumar Gharami made the most of his chance at the top of the order, scoring a sixth first-class century and sharing a double-century partnership with Shakir Habib Gandhi to put his team in a strong position against Tripura in Agartala.
At stumps on Day 2, Bengal were 336 for nine, with Shahbaz Ahmed unbeaten on 40, keeping the team well placed to secure three first-innings points.
Resuming from 171 for one overnight, Gharami and Gandhi continued confidently in the morning, facing little trouble from the Tripura bowlers.
Gharami was promoted as an opener in the absence of the captain Abhimanyu Easwaran and the injured Sudip Chatterjee. Gharami brought up his hundred with a well-timed sweep. He scored a patient 108 off 250 balls, hitting 15 fours.
Gandhi missed out on his maiden first-class century by just five runs, falling for 95. He was caught by substitute Rajat Dey at deep square leg off Rana Datta, who had earlier dropped him on Saturday.
After the pair’s dismissal, Bengal’s middle order struggled, losing four wickets for just 25 runs. Anustup Majumdar (6), stand-in captain Abhishek Porel (11), and Sumanta Gupta (5) all fell cheaply.
Tripura captain Manisankar Murasingh played a key role, first getting Gandhi out before removing Majumdar.
From 262 for seven, all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed steadied the innings with debutant Rahul Prasad, who made a quick 35 off 46 balls with five fours. Shahbaz remained not out on 40 from 82 balls with two boundaries, showing patience and control.
Rana Datta was Tripura’s best bowler, taking 3 for 76 from 23 overs, while Murasingh finished with 2 for 56 from 27 overs.
