Maharashtra lost their first two wickets for cheap

Out-of-favour India batter Prithvi Shaw failed to play a big innings for Maharashtra in their second match of the Ranji Trophy against Chandigarh. After being invited to bat first, Maharashtra didn't have a great start and lost Shaw cheaply for just 8 runs. Though the batter had looked to be in good touch in the first match against Kerala and had played a fine knock of 75, he wasn't able to continue that run in the second game.

Shaw disappoints with cheap dismissal

Shaw was dismissed by pacer Jagjit Singh as Maharashtra lost their first wicket in just the third over. The duo of Arshin Kulkarni and Siddhesh Veer tried to settle the innings, but the latter wasn't able to get going for too long and was dismissed for just 7 runs. Kulkarni did go on to score a griity half-century, but failed to convert his score into a bigger one and was dismissed for  exactly 50 runs by Jagjit.

This wicket left Maharashtra at 69/3 and now the responsibility was on Ruturaj Gaikwad and skipper Ankeet Bawne to take the innings forward. However, the duo failed to form a strong partnership as the captain departed for just 8 runs. Gaikwad and wicketkeeper-batter Saurabh Nawale ensured that Maharashtra didn't lose more wickets in the opening session and went into lunch at 114/4. Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 19 while Nawale also returned unbeaten on 17 as Maharashtra capped off an average session.

Major change in Shaw's form

Meanwhile, Shaw has looked to be in decent form ever since he made the switch from Mumbai to Maharashtra. The batter scored a brilliant century on his debut for the side in the Buchi Babu tournament and had played a remarkable knock of 181 against Mumbai in a warm-up match before the Ranji Trophy. However, having scored just 83 runs in his first three innings of the domestic tournament, he will be hoping to improve his form in the upcoming matches.

On the other hand, Maharashtra had made an average start to their Ranji Trophy campaign and had drawn their match against Kerala. They will be hoping to record their first victory of the tournament in their ongoing match against Chandigarh.
