Mumbai batter Siddhesh Lad made headlines on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy and scored a brilliant century as his side piled on runs against Jammu & Kashmir. Notably, Siddhesh is the son of Dinesh Lad, who is the childhood coach of Rohit Sharma. He came out to bat at No.4 with Mumbai having been restricted to 61/2. Soon after, they would also go on to lose Ajinkya Rahane for just 27 runs as the team fell down to 74/3.
Siddhesh leads Mumbai in batting department
The duo of Siddhesh and Sarfaraz Khan provided some much-needed stability to the side and formed a valiant partnership of 67 runs. Both the batters looked set to record big scores, but the latter ended up losing his wicket for 42. However, the same didn't happen with Siddhesh and he went on to punish the opposing bowlers even more. After an exceptional batting display, he finally went on to score a remarkable hundred as Mumbai closed in on the 300-run mark.

Siddhesh would eventually lose his wicket for 116 to Abid Mushtaq, leaving Mumbai on 300/5. The duo of Mulani and Akash Anand ensured that the side did not lose any more wickets as the Shardul Thakur-led side finished the day on 336/5. It remains to be seeen if their batters will continue their domination on Day 2 as well.
Kishan sends clear-cut message to selectors
On the other hand, after not being considered for any of India's upcoming assignments, Ishan Kishan decided to send a clear message to the selectors and cracked a fine hundred for Jharkhand in their Ranji Trophy opener against Tamil Nadu. Kishan, who is the side's captain, took to the crease on 79/3 and ended up carrying the team over the 300-run mark with a brilliant knock. Kishan finished the day unbeaten on 128 and was supported well by Sahil Raj (64*) as Jharkhand wrapped up things on 307/6. The duo have formed a stunning partnership of 150 runs and will be hoping to add to their tally as the action resumes on Day 2.
Meanwhile, Shami also went on to impress on the opening day of the domestic tournament. He took three wickets for Bengal as their bowlers absolutely dominated over Uttarakhand and bowled them out for only 213 runs in their first innings. Not only did Shami pick up three scalps, but also remained economical and gave away just 37 runs in his spell of 14.5 overs.
