Mumbai batter Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant knock, scoring a free-flowing double century against Odisha in the Ranji Trophy at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai on Thursday.
Iyer reached the landmark with a boundary off Debabrata Pradhan, taking 201 balls to get to his double hundred. He smashed 21 fours and eight sixes, dominating the Odisha bowlers on his way to his third First-Class double ton.
Immediately after bringing up his double hundred, Shreyas struck another four off Pradhan, surpassing his previous highest First-Class score of 202, made for India A against Australia in 2017.
This century marks Iyer’s second consecutive hundred, having scored a ton against Maharashtra in the previous round, although he missed the match against Tripura due to injury.
Iyer has been out of India's Test squad since February 2024, he last featured in the Test series against England and after that, the batter lost his central contract. He last played his ODI clash against Sri Lanka where Rohit Sharma-led side lost the series 2-0. His last T20I appearance came in 2023 against Australia in Bengaluru.
