Young Mumbai batter Musheer Khan has been enjoying a fairytale last couple of months. After giving a solid account of his all-round talent in the 2024 U19 World Cup, where he scored more than 400 runs with the bat, Musheer arrived to play the Ranji Trophy matches for Mumbai with supreme confidence. The young right-handed batter channeled his confidence in the right manner and turned out to be Mumbai's saviour in crunch knock-out matches.
After scoring a double-century in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final game and a half-century in the semi-final, Musheer continued his rich vein of form in the final and smashed another century. The 19-year-old played a gritty knock under pressure on a challenging pitch and scored 136 runs off 326 balls while stitching important alliances with senior pros like Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer.
Special occasion for Musheer Khan
On Day 3 of the Ranji Trophy final, Musheer had an added motivation to perform well and leave a lasting impression. The presence of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar fueled Musheer to perform at an optimum level.
"I did not even know that Sachin sir was here," Musheer said after the end of play on Day 3.
"But when I was batting on 60, I saw on him on the big screen and (thereon) I batted with the motivation that he is watching today and I have to impress sir," he added.
Rohit Sharma shows up for Ranji final
Team India captain Rohit Sharma also arrived at the Wankhede Stadium on March 12 (Tuesday) to watch the Ranji Trophy final unfold. The Hitman was spotted sitting inside Mumbai's dressing room. Rohit has been aggressively voicing the importance of domestic competitions and the players' need to prioritise them.
Meanwhile, Mumbai were in complete control of the Ranji final against Vidarbha. At stumps of Day 3, Vidarbha were 10/0 while chasing a monumental 538-run target.
