Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina despite calling time on his cricketing career has not changed one iota in regards to his athletic prowess. This was patent again when the all-rounder yet again displayed his agility while taking an absolute corker of a catch at the Road Safety World Series match between India Legends and Australia Legends.
He wound back the clock and reminded everyone that he is still the same Suresh Raina well-established for taking such fliers. The Indian legend took the outstanding catch that had the crowd on its feet during the semi-final match against Australia Legends on Wednesday (September 28) and left the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar stunned. It was the sixteenth over, the last ball from Abhimanyu Mithun to Ben Dunk who looked at ease with a knock of 46 runs from 25 deliveries that gave rise to the fantastic catch.
Raina like a wasp threw himself at the ball while being stationed at the backward point when Dunk hit the ball hard that was stopped in its track by Raina. The catch was made to have taken at a canter but Raina did look in slight pain after grabbing the ball against its ferocious speed of it.
Rain put the dampener on an intense game between India Legends and Australia Legends while Australia Legends were 135/5 off 18 overs. As a result due to the unabated showers impeding any further progress, the match was forced to be called off. However, the play will resume from the same point today (Thursday - September 29). The timing for the game to pick up from where it left would be 3:30pm IST.
The match story so far of the match has been shared in the favour of both teams. The toss fell in the favour of India Legends and skipper Sachin Tendulkar opted to ball first.
Australia were off to a strong start with the opening pair of Shane Watson (30) and Alex Doolan (35) knitting a firm partnership of 60 runs. Rahul Sharma put a spoke in the wheel of the partnership leading to the downfall of Watson and shortly after Doolan followed suit after Yusuf Pathan got in on the act and dismissed him.
It didn’t take long for Pathan to strike again and dismiss Callum Ferguson and two wickets fell in quick succession as Mithun sent well-settled Dunk and Nathan Reardon packing.
The second semi-final will be played today as well as Sri Lanka Legends and West Indies vie for the final’s seat. The final will be staged on October 2 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
