Days after Washington Sundar's Royal London One-Day Cup campaign in England came to a premature halt due to an injury, another star India all-rounder has now been sidelined, bringing an end to his participation in the tournament. Krunal Pandya, who was representing Warwickshire in the Royal London Cup, returned back to India after suffering a groin injury.
The elder of the two Pandya brothers sustained the injury during Warwickshire's match against Nottinghamshire on August 17. After consultation with doctors, it was revealed that the injury will take at least three weeks to heal, which meant Krunal wouldn't be game ready for the knockouts that are scheduled to begin on August 26. Thus, his campaign came to an end after only five matches.
"It's frustrating to lose Krunal for the remainder of the tournament, but he leaves the club with our very best wishes," Paul Farbrace, Warwickshire's director of cricket, said in a statement.
"Krunal was an excellent role model around the group and I'm sure the younger members of the squad will have learnt a lot from him on and off the pitch.
"Due to the short turnaround, we won't be signing a replacement, however, I'm incredibly excited to see our squad build on Sunday's excellent win over Durham," he added.
In five matches, Krunal scored 134 runs at an average of 33.50 while he also bagged nine wickets, displaying his all-round credentials. The Lucknow Super Giants' all-rounder has played five ODIs and 19 T20Is for India so far.
