Even though Somerset ended up losing their game against Surrey by 43 runs (D/L method) in the Royal London Cup clash on August 17 (Wednesday, their captain Matt Renshaw left onlookers gobsmacked after taking one of the greatest catches in cricket history. Renshaw, who has played 11 Test matches for Australia, gave a tremendous account of his athletic ability when he flew to his favoured left side to pluck the ball out of thin air.

It all transpired during the sixth over of Surrey's innings when Kasey Aldridge delivered the first ball at Ryan Patel. The left-handed Patel poked at a back of a length quick delivery from Aldridge and the ball flew towards the slips. Renshaw, who was the lone player at the slip cordon, dived full length to his left in an attempt to complete the catch with both hands.

But as the ball was traveling at immense speed, the Aussie stuck out his left hand in the end to complete a stunner. Somerset players soon gathered around Renshaw in complete awe and disbelief and appreciated the Aussie's sensational catch.

Even after being reduced to 27/2 at the 5.1-over mark, Surrey managed to cross the 300-run mark. Nico Reifer (70), Sheridon Gumbs (66) and Tom Lawes (60) scored fluent half-centuries which propelled Surrey's total to 302/9 after 50 overs.

In reply, Somerset lost three early wickets and were reduced to 68/3 after 12 overs when it started to rain. The game was later called-off and Surrey claimed the win by D/L method.
