South Africa returned to bat late in the day, even though they already had a huge lead of 286 runs. Openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton played carefully and tried not to take any risks. They put on 26 runs together in eight overs at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, taking South Africa’s overall lead to 314 by stumps on Day 3 of the second Test match as the visitors ended the day at 26 for no loss.
India's flop show in batting
Earlier, India were bowled out for 201 in their first innings, a disappointing response to South Africa’s massive 489. The hosts collapsed badly in the morning and afternoon sessions, losing wickets regularly and struggling to build a stand.
Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar tried to revive the 2nd Test
Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav tried to shift the momentum of the game. Coming together at 122 for 7, the duo added 72 runs for the eighth wicket. Washington looked steady for his 48 off 92 balls, while Kuldeep battled hard for 19 off 134 balls before he fell after South Africa took the second new ball.
Marco Jansen picked up a six-wicket haul against India
Marco Jansen was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa. The tall left-arm quick ripped through India’s batting lineup, finishing with brilliant figures of 6 for 48. Simon Harmer supported him well, picking up three wickets for 64.
Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a half-century
India reached lunch at 174 for 7, and except for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fluent 58, no other top-order batter could make a lasting impact. After starting the day at 9 for no loss, India lost four wickets in the morning session and three more before tea.
India's batting collapse
KL Rahul (22), Sai Sudharsan (15), Dhruv Jurel (0), Rishabh Pant (7), Ravindra Jadeja (6), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (10) all fell cheaply, leaving India in deep trouble. Without the partnership between Washington and Kuldeep, India’s situation would have been far worse.
