India's squads for T20I, ODI series against SA to be announced on November 23
India is facing significant uncertainty regarding the leadership for the ODI series as Shubman Gill, is currently out of action, after picking neck injury during first Test against South Africa. Compounding this issue, India's ODI vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer, is also sidelined with an injury suffered while fielding in the third ODI against Australia, and he is reportedly set to be rested for the entire home series.
KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant to lead India in ODIs sans Gill
Sports Tak has learnt that Gill is unlikely to be there and in his absence the candidate for ODI captaincy post will be discussed. There is contention between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.
However, a source privy to the development, told Sports Tak:
"Off late Pant hasn't played ODIs so will decide whom to give the position but it will be between him and Rahul".
In all likelihood, Rahul will be given ODI captaincy.
Notably, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have already retired from T20Is, are available for the selection for the ODI squad. They last appeared in the ODI series against Australia, where Rohit Sharma was adjudged the Player of the series.
