The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday (February 19) had appointed Rohit Sharma as the new captain of the Indian Test team. Veteran cricketers like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have been dropped for Sri Lanka Test series.
But apart from all these developments, there is another cricketer who seems to have attracted a huge attention and that player is Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.
On Saturday, Saha was axed from the Test team and since then the Bengal-born wicketkeeper has revealed multiple significant issues. And needless to mention that Saha’s revelations have already created a huge controversy.
Saha's claim
While recalling a past incident, Saha talked about the Indian team management headed by Rahul Dravid. According to him, Dravid had suggested that he should “think about taking retirement."
"The team management had told me that I would not be considered henceforth. I could not tell this so long as I was part of the India team setup," Wriddhiman Saha told mediapersons on February 20.
"Even coach Rahul Dravid suggested that I think about taking retirement," Saha had further added.
Previous assurances
But Saha’s revelations did not stop there as he went on to claim that BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had assured him that he “should not worry” about his place in the team.
"When I hit an unbeaten 61 taking a pain-killer in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur last November, Dadi (as Sourav was referred to by Bengal players) congratulated me over Whatsapp.
"He even mentioned that I should not worry about anything so long as he is at the helm of the BCCI. Such a message from the board president really boosted my confidence. But I failed to understand why everything changed so fast," Saha expressed.
On the other hand, Indian Test team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma will take on Sri Lanka in the upcoming two-match Test series. The Test series is scheduled to start on March 4.
