Shreyas assisted the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in ending their ten-year IPL title drought last season. However, KKR decided to keep Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Andre Russell, and Sunil Narine instead of him.

Rishabh Pant, who was sacked after failing to guide his team to the semifinals of the last tournament, has also cut ties with the Delhi Capitals. Of all the teams competing in the championship, Punjab Kings (PBKS) hold the largest remaining purse (110.5 crore). The only two players they kept were Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh.
