To provide a major boost to sports- infrastructure in Eastern India, Kolkata has announced a state-of-the-art sports facility which will be a lot similar to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The initiative will be headed by 1983 World Cup-winning cricketer Sandeep Patil. He will be having the responsibility to look after this project and its success.
The facility will not only be taking care of cricket but instead, they will be looking after multiple sports like football, basketball, and tennis. It is located at the Athlead International School in Joka and will be playing a pivotal role for promoting and helping Eastern India and North East athletes grow.
Former NCA director to head this venture
Sandeep Patil is the former NCA Director and a chairman of selectors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He has been appointed as the head of this venture. Patil has been appointed on a five- year contract. The project was unveiled in Kolkata on Tuesday (July 2) and Shrachi Sports Ventures have launched the project. It will be a private sports facility.

Sandeep Patil talking about this new venture said "When they (Shrachi Sports Ventures) approached me, I took time to say ‘yes’. I really liked what they are going to offer to the Indian cricket. That’s how I’ve agreed. Those who were at NCA with me Nanavati, Ashish, Shome, I’ve brought all of them here. It’s a team that will work here"
This project will cater to cricketers from the eastern region and north-east. It also work in association with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Patil said that the new project will make sure that the cricketers from the region are not required to go outside for rehab or any other service. Patil also said the facility will cater to athletes from not just cricket but other sports too.
