2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Global Qualifier A set to start from February 18 in Oman

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in Australia in 2022 and the final stage of qualifying for the T20 World Cup 2022 is set to kick off on February 18 (Saturday) in Muscat. Eight teams will be seen vying for two spots in the First Round of the ICC T20 World Cup. Hosts Oman will compete with teams like Ireland, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Canada, Philippines and Bahrain.

The schedule

In the first match of the qualifier Oman will be seen taking on Nepal and in the second fixture of the day Canada will play against Philippines. In the third game of the opening day Ireland will face United Arab Emirates and in the final clash of the day Germany will take on Bahrain.

Overall, 20 games are expected to be played within a span of just 6 days.

Eight teams are divided into two groups. The Group A is comprised of Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Germany and on the other hand, Group B is consisted of teams like Oman, Nepal, Canada and the Philippines.

The format

Each team will be involved in a single round-robin format within a group and the top two teams from each group will face off in crossover semi-finals. The winner of the Group A will take on the runner-up of Group B and the winner of Group B will face the runner-up of Group A. After these two matches, a final and subsequent play-offs will help in determining the ultimate standings of these teams.

This particular format appears to be short and might prove to be pretty exciting as well but it is needless to say that a format like this can often turn out to be dangerous for teams as one small mistake can result in an unfortunate disqualification.

The final match of the qualifier stage will be held on February 24 and the game to decide third and fourth place will be played on the same day as well.
