Pakistan's veteran trio of Mohammad Amir, Imad Wasim and Fakhar Zaman will play for the new Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Antigua & Barbuda Falcons in the upcoming edition. All three players were involved in the T20 World Cup 2024 clash at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York against India which resulted in a six-run defeat for Pakistan.
So far, the Falcons have signed 12 players. They need to rope in five more players at the draft in the upcoming month.
Pakistan trio’s record in CPL
Pakistan trio have a good record in CPL. Left-arm spinner Wasim who represented Jamaica Tallawahs has 61 wickets from 54 games. His economy rate is 6.20 runs per over. He is second-highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in CPL.
Amir has played three CPL seasons and represented Barbados Royals in addition to Jamaica Tallawahs. The left-arm pacer has 43 wickets from 29 games. His economy rate is also impressive at 6.50 runs per over.
Pakistan’s hard-hitting batter Zaman will be making his CPL debut for the new franchise.
Other notable names in the squad
West Indies opener Brandon King who recently led the side against South Africa in a T20I series at home has been signed along with spin all-rounder Fabian Allen. A 17-year-old batter Jewel Andrew who played for West Indies in the Under-19 World Cup 2024 will feature din the side as well.
The big overseas names in the side include Australian off-spinner Chris Green, Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai and Hayden Walsh Jr.
CPL 2024 schedule
The 2024 edition of the CPL will commence on August 28 whereas the final will be played on October 26 at National Stadium in Providence, Guyana. Antigua will host CPL matches for the first time in a decade. Antigua had previous hosted franchise Antigua Hawksbills in the first two seasons.
