Amidst IPL 2025, Yashasvi Jaiswal leaves team he made debut for, to play alongside Arjun Tendulkar

India's Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken a big step to officialy move from Mumbai to Goa. Sports Tak has learned that Jaiswal has sought NOC from Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to switch to Goa from next season. 

The reason for shifting domestic state side has not been revealed yet. Jaiswal is yet to comment on the matter. 

Jaiswal made his debut in domestic cricket for Mumbai. He has been associated with them since his Under-19 days. 

The last time he represented Mumbai was against Jammu and Kashmir after the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) diktat to play domestic cricket. He registered scores of 4 and 26 as Mumbai lost to Jammu and Kashmir.

Goa earned promotion to Elite Group

Goa finished at the top of Ranji Trophy Plate League 2024-25 and earned promotion to the Elite Group alongside Nagaland. Darshan Misal-led Goa won all of their five matches in plate group last season. 

Jaiswal will be the third Mumbai player to join Goa in recent times. Siddhesh Lad and Arjun Tendulkar opted to move to Goa as well.

Rollercoaster run for Jaiswal

Jaiswal was India's top run-scorer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He scored 391 runs from 10 innings, averaging 43.44, including one century and two half-centuries. Jaiswal was named in the preliminary squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He made his ODI debut against England and scored 15 runs. As a last-minute change, Jaiswal was replaced by myster spinner Varun Chakravarthy. However, he was named in the list of non-travelling reserves. As a result, he was named in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy 2024-25 semifinal squad against Vidarbha. He cited pain in his ankle as the reason behind opting out of the game.

Jaiswal in IPL 2025 so far

Jaiswal is yet to get going for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The 23-year-old who was retained for Rs 18 crore, same as captain Sanju Samson, has managed to score 34 runs from three innings. In their campaign opener, he lost his wicket to Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) Simarjeet Singh for a single. Jaiswal got off to a start against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The opener could not convert it and departed for a 24-ball 29 as he was dismissed by Moeen Ali. In the previous encounter against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he scored just four runs and became Khaleel Ahmed's first victim of the match. RR's next clash is against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on April 9.
