Andhra Pradesh opener Vamsi Krishna created history by smashing six sixes in an over in the ongoing Col CK Nayudu Trophy and joined the elite list of Indian batters to achieve the rare feat. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed Railways leg-spinner Damandeep Singh for six sixes en route to his quickfire 110-run knock in Kadapa.
How Krishna hit 6 sixes in an over
On the first ball of the over, he dragged the ball from outside the off stump and slog-swept it for a maximum. On the second ball, he hit the ball over the bowler's head to clear the boundary. Then, Singh bowled one into the wicket, and Krishna hit it over mid-wicket for another maximum.
On the fourth ball, he bowled one on the leg stump and got the same result. He bowled in the same area again but this time Krishna got down one knee and hit it over deep square leg boundary for a six. On the last ball, he dragged the length back. Krishna went on the back foot and pulled it over mid-wicket for another six to create history.
Dealing mostly in boundaries
In his 64-ball 110, Krishna hit nine fours and 10 sixes. He scored 96 runs from boundaries only. Despite his 1104-run knock and half-centuries from Vamsri Krishna, E Dharani Kumar, and S Venkata Rahul, Andhra Pradesh were bowled out for 378.
Later in the game, Damandeep managed to take a couple of wickets.
Railways' monstrous score
Railways opener Ansh Yadav and Ravi Singh scored double centuries to take their team's score to 865/9. Yadav scored 268 runs from 597 balls including 14 fours and a couple of sixes. Ravi smashed 17 fours and 13 sixes in his 258 off 311 balls. They shared a massive 420-run partnership for the third wicket. Anchit Yadav scored a century as well.
When Shastri, Yuvraj and Gaikwad smashed six sixes in an over
During a Ranji Trophy match in 1985, the Bombay batter smashed Baroda's left-arm spinner for six sixes in an over.
32 years later, coincidentally Shastri was in the commentary box when Yuvraj smashed England's Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over in the inaugural T20 World Cup 2007.
In 2022 Vijay Hazare quarter-final clash, Maharashtra's Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed Uttar Pradesh's Shiva Singh for seven sixes in an over. Shiva bowled a no-ball which went for a six as well. He also broke Zimbabwe's Elton Chigumbura's record of most runs (39) in an over which he achieved in Dhaka Premier League's division game.
