The hearing in the alleged rape case against former Pakistan captain Babar Azam was postponed till December 16 by the Lahore High Court on Thursday. The petitioner, Hamiza Mukhtar, informed the court that after vowing to marry her, Babar had abused her after they had been dating for some time.
Babar's junior attorney asked the court to postpone the case since his senior attorney, Barrister Haris Azmat, did not show up and the court granted the request.
The petitioner's claim
The petitioner restated her claims before the court and said "Babar Azam sexually exploited me, making me pregnant. He later persuaded me to abort the child, which she did,” she added that as he rose through the ranks, the cricket player broke his promise
In order to bolster her arguments, she has also included medical records with the petition. Additionally, she said that despite complaining of "blackmail and fornication," police declined to file a formal complaint against Babar. Since 2021, this has been pending.
Babar is currently in South Africa to play two Test matches, three T20Is, and two ODIs. In the first T20I at Durban, South Africa defeated Pakistan by 11 runs, and Babar was out for a four-ball zero.
The former Pakistan captain is currently struggling to find his form and this has effected Pakistan's performance overall. He stepped down from the captaincy following T20 World Cup 2024 where Pakistan suffered an exit from the group stage itself. The Men in Green will be hoping that Babar returns to form as they have lot of big assignments coming cup including the Champions Trophy.
