After completing his tenure, Hannan Sarkar, a former national opener and current member of the national selection panel, has decided to leave his position. This decision follows Sarkar's desire to work as a cricket coach. According to a report from Cricbuzz, on February 1, Hannan sent a formal letter to the board expressing his wish to leave the prominent position.
Hannan Sarkar resigns
Hannan acknowledged the situation and expressed his desire to finish his term, which expires on February 26.
"Yes, I have handed them (board) the letter yesterday to step down from the selection committee. I wish to have a career in coaching, and as a result don't want to continue as part of the national selection panel. If BCB [Bangladesh Cricket Board] feels that they can include me in as a coach in their set-up, in that case, I am ready to consider it," Hannan told Cricbuzz.
In his brief two-year international career, the 42-year-old had played in 17 Test matches and 20 ODIs for Bangladesh. Later, he became an age-level selector with BCB, where he served as a U-19 selector for almost ten years, helping Bangladesh win the U-19 World Cup in 2020.
While he was employed in 2024, the Under-19 team also won their first Asia Cup, and his achievements at the age level of cricket secured him a spot at the senior level.
