BCCI announces India A's squad for One-Day series vs Australia A; Rajat Patidar removed as captain, Tilak Varma demoted to vice-captain
Shreyas Iyer of Punjab Kings and Rajat Patidar of Royal Challengers Bengaluru walk out onto the field for opening ceremonies prior to the 2025 IPL Final match at Narendra Modi Stadium on June 03, 2025, in Ahmedabad, India.

Story Highlights:

Rajat Patidar was captain for 1st game whereas Tilak Varma was to lead in remainder 2 games.

Shreyas Iyer has taken a 6-month break from red-ball cricket.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on September 25 announced India A’s squad for the One-Day series against Australia A starting September 30 in Kanpur. Since Shreyas Iyer has taken a six-month break from red-ball cricket, he will lead the India A side in the One-Day series.

Earlier, Rajat Patidar was captain for the first game of the series as Tilak Varma will play in the T20 Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28. For the second and third game, Varma was named captain. After Iyer taking up the captaincy role, Varma has been named his deputy for the two One-Dayers.
