The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to host a Special General Meeting (SGM) to elect the new joint secretary. The meeting will take place in Mumbai on March 1 at 12 PM IST in BCCI headquarters.
The post of joint secretary has been vacant since Devjit Saikia was elected as the BCCI secretary, replacing Jay Shah in that position last month. As per BCCI rules, the position needs to be filled within 45 days.
As per sources close to Sports Tak, On behalf of secretary Saikia, a BCCI staff member sent out the SGM notice to the state associations on Thursday (February 6) evening, with a single-item agenda. The notice stated that the election will be held at 12 noon at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
Earlier, the SGM was held on January 12, 2025, where the cricketing body had elected the new secretary (Saikia) and new treasurer (Prabhtej Singh Bhatia). This will be the second SGM in less than 12 months
Interestingly, During the upcoming second SGM meeting, Team India will be in Dubai featuring in the Champions Trophy 2025. The Champions Trophy is scheduled to start from February 19 and India will start its campaign against Bangladesh on February 20. India will face arch-rivals Pakistan in the second league match on February 23 and the Men in Blue will face New Zealand in their last league match which will take place on March 2. The mega event will be played in a hybrid model where one of the semifinal and matches featuring India will take place in Dubai. The rest of the tournament will take place in Pakistan's Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi.
