Harshit Rana gets Test call-up for Australia tour.

He opens up on his selection for the series.

Harshit Rana spoke candidly regarding receiving his first Test call-up for the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Harshit was included in India's 18-man team for the November 22 opening of the 5-match Test series against Australia. According to Harshit, he approaches the game with a competitive mindset that is comparable to that of Australians. In the Australian summer, Harshit, who is renowned for his vivacious celebrations after getting wickets on the field, will try to earn his Test cap. Along with Abhimanyu Easwaran and Nitish Reddy, he is one of the three uncapped players in the team.

"The kind of competitive attitude I like to play cricket with on the field is very similar to Australia's. It was my father's dream that I play a Test against England sometime at Lord's, but I personally like Australia more. I am proud of myself, that my name came up for this tour," Harshit told ESPNCricinfo after his selection in the Test team.

Harshit was part of the team in the first two Test matches against New Zealand in Bengaluru and Pune as a travelling reserve for the Indian team. The pacer disclosed that while training with the team, he had a feeling he had been selected for the Australia tour.

"Only when the team was announced did I know I was going to Australia. But I had indications that I might be selected for the Australia tour because they had me with the team to prepare. Being selected for the Australia tour is a big deal for me," Harshit said.

After the Pune Test, Harshit was cut from the team since he is now playing for Delhi in the Ranji match against Assam. Harshit, who has not yet made his Test or T20I debut, talked about what he has learned from playing for the Indian squad for a number of months.

"I have been with the Indian team continuously since the IPL and I have learnt a lot of things there. This lesson is not only about cricket, but also about life, how a sportsperson advances in his career and life. Even as a cricketer, I have grown a lot by being with the Indian team," Harshit said.

In the Ranji match against Assam, Harshit claimed to have spoken with players like Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah in the run-up to the Australia tour. He also took five wickets and struck a fifty.

"Gambhir bhaiya has always backed me and if I have to ask anything, I always go to him and talk to him and he always gives me the right guidance. Under him, I have grown a lot in the IPL and he has taught me a lot of things."
