South Africa pacer Gerald Coetzee suffered a pectoral muscle injury in the side's T20I clash against Namibia on Saturday. This comes ahead of the Proteas' upcoming tour of Pakistan and India. Coetzee sustained the injury while he was bowling his second over during the clash against Namibia. He only bowled a total of nine deliveries during the match and soon was taken off the field.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) then went on to confirm that Coetzee will not be taking part in the remainder of the match and his injury will be assessed properly once he reaches home. He is not the first South African pacer to suffer an injury in the past week as left-arm seamer Kwena Maphaka was recently ruled out of the Namibia T20I and Pakistan tour due to a hamstring strain that he had sustained while playing a domestic match.
Coetzee has had many injury problems
On the other hand, this is not the first injury that Coetzee has sustained during the ongoing year as he had missed the entire ICC Champions Trophy due to a groin injury. The 25-year-old was included in South Africa's squad for the white-ball series of Pakistan, but he is now doubtful for the assignment. However, despite the two setbacks, South Africa still have a strong pace attack at their hands as the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder and Corbin Bosch are fully fit.
Meanwhile, Coetzee has so far played 14 ODIs and 12 T20Is in his career, picking up 31 and 13 wickets respectively in the two formats. He has not been able to cement his place in any of South Africa's squads so far and will be hoping to recover from his injury as soon as he can.
South Affrica's upcoming fixtures
South Africa are set to begin their tour of Pakistan on October 12 with the first Test of the two-match series. They will then be playing three T20Is and ODIs each against the Men in Green. They will then begin their tour of India from November 14 that will include two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.
