He is suffering from strained muscle in left triceps.

South Africa's red-ball captain Temba Bavuma will not play in the first Test match against Bangladesh because of a strained left triceps muscle. The captain will continue his recuperation under the supervision of the Proteas medical staff when he travels to Bangladesh with the team.

Aiden Markram to lead in his absence

South Africa will be led by Aiden Markram for the encounter, which begins on October 21 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Dewald Brevis, who has played two T20 Internationals for the Proteas, has been added to the team as cover for Bavuma.

After participating in 12 first-class matches thus far, Brevis has amassed 749 runs at a 37.45 average and a 68.58 strike rate, along with two hundred and four fifties. Additionally, he played for the Indian Premier League's Mumbai Indians (MI) (IPL). Nandre Burger, a left-arm fast bowler, has a lumbar stress fracture and will miss the series. His successor was named as Lungi Ngidi. The Proteas will travel to Chattogram for the second Test, which will begin on October 29 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, after the Mirpur Test.

Regarding Bavuma, for the past few months, there have been numerous concerns about his injuries. He was sick enough to miss the first ODI against Afghanistan back in September, and Markram took over as captain. He recently had a soft tissue injury to his left elbow, which kept him out of the third and final ODI against Ireland. As the South African team's captain at the time, Rassie van der Dussen took command.
