Australia’s veteran batter David Warner, who is currently playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026, was recently arrested in Australia for drunk driving. Although he has returned to continue playing in the PSL, he is expected to appear in court at a later date.
When did David Warner get caught driving drunk by the police?
According to reports, the incident happened late on Sunday night in Maroubra, Sydney, where Warner was found to have nearly double the legal alcohol limit after failing a breath test.
In a statement to news.com.au, NSW Police said that Warner had stopped and parked his vehicle before reaching the testing site. Officers then approached him and conducted a breath test, which came back positive.

Police statement on David Warner
He was taken to Maroubra Police Station, where his alcohol reading was recorded at 0.1. He is scheduled to appear in court in May.
“About 5:30 pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra. A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park," the statement read.
“Officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver, a 39-year-old man, to roadside testing, which returned a positive result," the statement added.
David Warner's career
Warner had already retired from international cricket in 2024 and moved into media work after ending his career. His retirement came as a surprise, as he announced it just four weeks before he was set to play in Australia’s ODI series against the West Indies in January 2024.

At that time, Warner was preparing for his final Test match, with Australia scheduled to play Pakistan in the New Year’s Test at the SCG.
He had also made it clear earlier that he would not continue playing ODIs beyond the 2024 summer, choosing instead to focus on T20 leagues around the world.
