The Ashes kick off on June 16 and go on till July 31, as England and Australia head into a busy run of matches. The host nation's summer before this will include a one-off Test against Ireland at the Lord's in preparation for the all-important Ashes, while Australia will also play a one-off Test fixture — the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India at the Oval from June 7-11.
Ahead of the mega Test series, one advertisement that has been made has caught the eyes of fans — especially in England — not only for the catchy song parodies but also the lyrics of the songs, which trolls Australian star batter David Warner, whose form in Test cricket has been weaning in the last year.
The ad video, which has been made by Marmite, a Yeast extract spread company, sees a member of the company and what she calls the 'Marmy Army' performing various renditions of popular songs and Broad showing his disapproval at all the songs. Australian fans might take offence at some of the lyrics but there is no doubt that the lyrics are very catchy.
Sharing the video on his Twitter handle, Broad said, "Delighted to join forces with @marmite ahead of the Ashes this summer. Had a lot of fun shooting this with The Marmy Army. What do you think of my new song – love it or hate it? I think I love it…"
Some of the hilarious lyrics in the video include, "War, huh! What's Warner good for, absolutely nothing," to the tune of Edwin Starr's famous 1969 song 'War'.
The reason for mentioning Warner's name in recurrence might be because of the fact that the pacer has an exceptional head-to-head record against the Australian opener. They have faced off against each other in the Ashes, with Broad managing to dismiss him on 13 separate occasions — more than any other bowler in Test cricket.
