Delhi Capitals (DC) will likely part ways with their head coach Ricky Ponting after seven long years because the franchise has failed to perform in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ponting's contract with DC will expire this year and the team management will yet to discuss on his contract renewal.
Now, the DC director of cricket Sourav Ganguly revealed that the franchise will not reappoint Ponting as the head coach. Ganguly also revealed that he will coach the franchise now. He said that Ponting had no results to show in the 7 years that he was associated with the franchise and hence has to be let go.
“I have to plan for next year's IPL. I want to win the IPL for Delhi Capitals once. The mega auction is next year, and hence I have started planning from now on. Let me break a news. head Ricky Ponting will not be the coach of Delhi Capitals. Geoffery Boycott was right, as Ponting has not been able to take the franchise forward in the past 7 years. I have to speak with the franchise and ask them to look at Indian coaches.I will be the head coach. Let's see how I perform” Ganguly told Bengali newspaper Aajkal.
Delhi Capitals yet to win IPL title
Talking about Delhi Capitals, with the return of Rishabh Pant in the IPL 2024 season, his team won seven out of 14 matches while it lost six matches. Which helped Delhi based franchise to finish sixth. Whereas in the history of IPL starting from the year 2008, the Delhi team has not been able to capture the title even once. As per the Aajkal newspaper, Sourav Ganguly said that he will coach Delhi based franchise for the upcoming season.
