South Africa’s Dewald Brevis has come of age. He is not ‘Baby AB’ anymore and making a name for himself in international and franchise cricket alike. The AB flair is still there but now Brevis has belief which has made him realise his potential. On the back of performances in Australia, Brevis started a record-breaking bidding war in the SA20 Auction on September 9. Fighting for him were familiar foes, Sourav Ganguly at Pretoria Capitals and Stephen Fleming at Jo’burg Super Kings. In the end, Super Kings had to let go of their wonder boy as Brevis was roped in for a whopping R15.1 million (Rs 8.3 crore), nearly four times his price tag as a replacement player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. 

The second on the list is South Africa’s T20I captain. Won the SA20 League twice with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Markram’s services were acquired by Durban Super Giants for R14 million (Rs 7.04 crore).

Other big buys in SA20 Auction

South Africa’s Test triple centurion Wiian Mulder went for R9 Million (Rs 4.53 crore) to Super Kings. Pace-bowling all-rounder Gerald Coetzee will play for Super Giants for R7.4 million (Rs 3.72 crore). Left-arm pacer Nandre Burger started a mini-bidding war to before he went to Super Kings for R6.3 million (Rs 3.17 crore). Wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Breetzke who broke ODI records recently went to Sunrisers for R6.1 million (Rs 3.07 crore). Experienced batter Rassie van der Dussen went for R5.2 million (Rs 2.62 crore) to MI Cape Town. Pacers Ottneil Baartman will play for Paarl Royals for R5.1 million (Rs 2.57 crore) whereas Anrich Nortje got R5 million (Rs 2.51 crore) to play for Sunrisers.
