The Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction has shuffled a lot of players from their favourite franchises and many cricketers got a huge paycheck as 10 franchises made their squad for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league. 10 IPL teams spend Rs. 639.15 over 182 players in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Rishabh Pant was the highlight of the auction as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) brought him for a whopping Rs. 27 crore. He became the most expensive buy in the history of the tournament. On the other hand, Punjab Kings who entered the auction with the highest purse spent Rs. 20 crores to get the services of IPL 2024 winning captain Shreyas Iyer. Venkatesh Iyer will return to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after a whopping Rs. 23.75 crore.
On the other hand, the auction was a heartbreak for a few cricketers who remained unsold and former SRH captain David Warner was one of them. India's stars like Prithvi Shaw, Sarfaraz Khan, Shardul Thakur, Mayank Agarwal, and Umesh Yadav also remained unsold in the mega auction. Apart from them there are few cricketers whose selection surprised fans and one of them was Deepak Chahar.
Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar who was picked by Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction said that he would miss MS Dhoni while featuring for the Hardik Pandya-led side in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
The Mumbai-based franchise brought him for a whopping Rs 9.25 crore at the mega auction. Chahar's base price in the mega auction was Rs 2 crore and Mumbai raised the first bid with Punjab Kings (PBKS) joining at Rs 2.2 crore. At 7.5 crore, (PBKS) pulled out and CSK joined the bid and went on till Rs 9 crore before Mumbai sealed it Rs 9.25 crore.
While speaking to former CSK star Suresh Raina, Deepak Chahar answered to CSK star's question to will you miss MS Dhoni in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
"Everytime I talk to Rahul (Chahar), I say you are playing for the team I should be playing and I am playing for the team you should be playing, skill-wise. Because in Chennai, there is help for the spinners and in Mumbai for pacers. He could not come to Chennai, but I am going to Mumbai. So I will get that advantage," Chahar said.
Rahul has moved to the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who bought the leg-spinner for Rs 3.2 crore.
Raina then asked Chahar, "Dhoni bhai ko miss karoge'? (Will you miss MS Dhoni). The latter answered, "Unko kaun nahi miss karega' (Who wouldn't miss him?)
In January 2018, Chahar was bought by Chennai ahead of the IPL. He was released ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction but was bought back.
