Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title by beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final on June 3. Young leg-spinner Suyash Sharma played a crucial role in middle overs for RCB in their dream run. With Suyash and left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya being regulars in the side, Swapnil Singh did not get to play a single game. On June 9 in Coimbatore, Swapnil's all-round show featuring a whirlwind 14-ball 45 helped Chepauk Super Gillies win by 41 runs.
Swapnil walked in to bat at no.6 in the 17th over of Chepauk Super Gillies' innings. They were 154/4. In the 18th over, Swapnil took on Uday Kumar M, smashing him for a four and three consecutive sixes. Uday Kumar conceded 25 runs in the over. In the final over, he hit two consecutive sixes over long-on off V Yudheeswaran before getting dismissed. He missed his half-century as well. Swapnil's knock was laced with two fours and five sixes.
Before Swapnil's fiery knock, opener K Aashiq scored 54 runs from 38 balls. Skipper Babar Aparajith contributed with a 29-ball 41. Experienced campaigner Vijay Shankar remained unbeaten for a 24-ball 47 as Chepauk Super Gillies posted 212/7 on the board.
Swapnil strikes twice, big win for Chepauk Super Gillies
Nellai Royal Kings lost early wickets. Swapnil struck twice in the sixth over to get rid of NS Harish and Ajitesh Guruswamy. Harish got out stumped for a seven-ball 14 whereas Guruswamy got bowled. Captain Arun Karthik tried to play the anchor role. He scored 51 runs from 42 balls. Towards the end, Muhammad Adnan Khan hit four sixes in his 27-ball 48. Nella Royal Kings posted 171/9 on the board and lost the match by 41 runs. Swapnil bowled four overs, conceded 26 runs and took two wickets. Abhishek Tanwar was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 33 runs in his quota of four overs.
With their second win of the season, Chepauk Super Gillies are at the top of the points table. Their next match is against Lyca Kovai Kings on June 14.
