Jordan Cox was adjudged Player of the tournament in The Hundred

Young wicketkeeper-batter Jordan Cox has been rewarded for his exceptional show in the recently-concluded Men's Hundred. The 24-year-old has been added to England's squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland. The series is scheduled to get underway on September 17 in Malahide, Dublin, and Cox's inclusion comes on the back of his sensational form in domestic cricket.

Notably, Cox was the standout performer in The Hundred tournament, finishing as the highest run-scorer. Across nine matches, he amassed an impressive 367 runs, including three half-centuries, at an excellent average of 61.16. What truly stood out was his explosive batting, reflected in a staggering strike rate of 173.93. Harry Cox has had two opportunities to make his England Test debut, but both were unfortunately derailed by injury. The first instance was last November in New Zealand, and the second was this May in a home series against Zimbabwe. Despite the setbacks, Cox has gained experience in the limited-overs formats, having played in three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for the national side.

This series presents a big opportunity for Cox to establish himself on the international stage. He has played five international matches to date, including two T20Is against the West Indies in 2024, but has yet to replicate his domestic success. After his dominant performance in The Hundred, he will be eager to translate those numbers into a successful international comeback. For this tour, Jacob Bethell will take on captaincy duties, as regular player Harry Brook has been rested.

At just 21 years old, Bethell is poised to make history as the youngest captain of the England men's cricket team. This achievement will surpass the long-standing record held by Monty Bowden, who was 23 years and 144 days old when he captained England in a Test match against South Africa in Cape Town during the 1888-89 tour.
