ENG vs SL: Massive blow to England team; Ben Stokes out of full English summer due to hamstring injury

England cricket team's red-ball captain Ben Stokes has been forced to rule out of the remaining of the summer season in the wake of tearing his hamstring. Stokes suffered this hamstring injury on Sunday, 11 August while playing in The Hundred. The English Test skipper was carted away from the ground and presently has hence been ruled out of the summer season. England has officially anounced the news through a media statement expressing that there will be no addition to the crew for the home series against Sri Lanka which starts on 21 August.

England Cricket Board on Ben Stokes' injury

 

"England Men's Test Captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out for the rest of the summer after tearing his left hamstring while playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sunday. As a result of the scans conducted in Leeds on Tuesday, Stokes will miss England's three-match Rothesay Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins at Emirates Old Trafford on Wednesday, 21 August. There will be no addition to the squad for this series," the ECB statement said.

The board went on to say that the all-rounder wants to be back for England's winter season which includes a Test tour of Pakistan, which starts at the beginning of October. The series will see three Test matches which will be played in Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.

 

Ben Stokes gets injured

 

After the Superchargers were in the chase for a 153-run target, Stokes emerged to open the batting however was forced to retire hurt following facing issues with his hamstring. On Monday, the all-rounder will have scans, and it doesn't look like he will be ready for England's red-ball series. Stokes felt some uneasiness after he finished a single early in his innings. Right away, he fell to the ground and got rid of his gloves. From there on, the clinical staff treated him, yet he was unable to recover and was taken away from the ground. A stretcher was used to transport Stokes to an ambulance later.

 

"It doesn't look great, unfortunately. I think he'll be getting a scan tomorrow, and we'll see how he is," said Harry Brook after their seven-wicket win.
