England speedster Freya Davies has announced her retirement from professional cricket at the age of 29 to start a career in law as a trainee solicitor after playing cricket for 15 years.

Davies made her international debut in March 2019, featuring in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Her last international outing came in 2023 against Australia at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
 

“Best of luck to Freya Davies, who made 35 appearances for England as she retires from Cricket to become a solicitor. All the best for the future, Freya!” England Cricket wrote in a statement.

 

 

Freya Davies started her cricketing journey with Sussex when she was just 14 and quickly cemented her place in domestic cricket, featuring for sides including Western Storm, South East Stars, London Spirit, Welsh Fire, Southern Vipers, and Hampshire. She played a crucial role in Sussex’s 2013 County Championship win and went on to make 86 appearances for her home county.

She was the highest wicket-taker in the Women’s Cricket Super League with 19 scalps in 2019. She represented England in 35 matches across ODIs and T20Is between 2019 and 2023, picking up 33 wickets,  including a four-wicket haul.

Davies' last competitive outing came for Hampshire in the One-Day Cup final against Lancashire at the Rose Bowl on September 21. Hampshire finished that tournament as runners-up, where she picked up 19 wickets from 14 matches, including best figures of 9.5-0-39-4 against Surrey in the semifinals. Apart from that, Davies featured in 37 Women’s Hundred matches, picking up 36 wickets for London Spirit and Welsh Fire.

Off the field, Davies has pursued her passion for law, completing a Legal Practice Course (LPC) and an LLM. She has expressed her intention to transition into a legal career while ensuring she finishes her cricket journey on a strong note.
