Pakistan batter Salman Ali Agha was dismissed in a highly unusual and controversial way during the second ODI against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
How did Salman Ali Agha get dismissed?
The incident happened in the 39th over when Pakistan was building a strong partnership, with Mohammad Rizwan at the other end. On the fourth delivery of the over, bowled by Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rizwan gently pushed the ball down the ground. The ball rolled towards Agha, who was backing up outside his crease. As the ball hit his pads, Agha bent down to pick it up and handed it back to Miraz. The Bangladesh captain quickly collected the ball and broke the stumps while Agha was still out of his crease, appealing for a run-out.
The on-field umpire upheld the appeal and sent it to the third umpire, who confirmed the dismissal in Bangladesh’s favour. Agha looked frustrated as he walked back to the pavilion, and visuals showed him clearly unhappy with how he was dismissed.
Mohammad Kaif slammed the Bangladesh captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Former India batter Mohammad Kaif also criticised the move on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
"This is so not done. No desperation of getting wickets can justify this run out. That too from a captain. Youngsters please remember, even if the World Cup final is on the line never do what the Bangladesh skipper did. Sports without fair play is no sports."
The unusual run-out sparked brief arguments on the field. Rizwan was seen discussing the incident with the Bangladesh players, while Litton Das defended the appeal. Social media was abuzz, with many supporting Agha, while some blamed Rizwan for leaving his crease.
Pakistan beat Bangladesh by DLS method
After Agha’s dismissal, Pakistan were bowled out for 274 runs in 47.3 overs. Maaz Sadaqat was the top scorer with 75 runs. Pakistan who lost the first ODI make comeback in the second clash by defeating Bangladesh by 128 runs (DLS Method).
