Indian young batter Rinku Singh was not selected for the first-round matches of the Duleep Trophy 2024. BCCI have already announced four teams for the first round of the Duleep Trophy named A, B, C, and D. While the likes of Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Riyan Parag, and Sarfaraz Khan were selected, the left-handed batter from UP was snubbed despite being a part of the India A team on the South Africa tour last year. He later joined the senior team during the Test series. Therefore his omission was a surprising move taken by the selectors.
In the esclusive conversation with Sports Tak, Rinku said that his bad performance in domestic cricket is the reason why he is not the part of upcoming Duleep Trophy 2023.
"Nothing...I didn't perform that well (in domestic season). I didn't play many matches in the Ranji Trophy. I played 2-3 matches. I wasn't selected because I didn't play that well. I might get selected for next-round matches," he said.

Rinku’s red ball record
The 26-year-old cited his poor form in domestic cricket as the reason for his snub hoping to make the cut in the next rounds. Rinku has participated in 47 games of first-class cricket, making 3173 runs at a strike average of 71.59. He slammed twenty half-centuries and seven centuries for Uttar Pradesh. He emerged as a batting sensation in T20 cricket perfectly donning the role of finisher helping his team win crucial matches. But the left-hander is yet to prove his prowess in the red ball format resulting in failing to get a spot among the 60 players selected to play the Duleep Trophy starting from 5th September in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and M Chinnaswamy stadium, Bengaluru. Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer are the four captains of the Duleep Trophy 2024.
Rinku to lead Mavericks in UP T20 League
Rinku was a part of the traveling reserves for the T20 World Cup 2024 team, he later featured in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The Kolkata Knight Riders star batter last featured in the T20I series against Sri Lanka under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy. Now, he will be seen in action in the UP T20 League where he will lead Meerut Mavericks. The tournament is scheduled to take place on August 25. Mavericks will be seen playing their opener clash of the tournament against Kashi Rudras on August 25.
