Tamil Nadu and former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player Rajagopal Sathish has revealed that he was offered Rs 40 lakh for match-fixing. The 40-year-old was on the books of Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) during a brief Indian Premier League (IPL) career. The player though has revealed that he informed the police regarding the offer.
"The player approached us and ICC and informed us that someone had approached him on Instagram. We took details of the case and told our ACU officer to file a police complaint in the matter. We are just a facilitator and now police will look into the case," Shabbir Khandwawala, Chief of Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU), told The Indian Express.
Sathish reported the incident to BCCI's anti-corruption unit and also lodged a complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC). As per reports, an investigation is being carried out by the police.
The matter of the complaint read, "On January 3, a person named Bunny Anand contacted Sathish on Instagram and messaged him luring to pay Rs 40 lakh and told that two players have already agreed to the offer. Sathish said that he said ‘sorry’ to the offer.”
As per reports, it is also claimed that two other players were approached and had agreed to the match-fixing. Sathish though didn't respond and approached the police. Earlier in 2013, three Indian were arrested by the Delhi police on suspicion of match-fixing.
The Tamil Nadu star was a sensational hit in the abolished Indian Cricket League (ICL) back in 2007-08. After the ICL stint, Sathish joined MI where he was teammates with legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and many other star players.
