Former India skipper and 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir issued a stern warning to Team India as he wants Rohit Sharma's brigade to be wary of their biggest threat in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.
After their recent setback in the ODI World Cup 2023 final on home soil, Team India is now focusing on the upcoming challenge of the T20 World Cup 2024, set to be held in June in the West Indies and the USA. Following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, this eagerly awaited event will feature 20 teams competing in the showpiece tournament.
Gambhir Identifies Key Challenges for India in T20 World Cup 2024
In a recent video shared by 'Thumsup' on their official Instagram account, Gambhir, alongside his ex-teammate Yuvraj Singh, analysed the top contenders and primary challenges that Indian team will encounter in the upcoming 20-team T20 World Cup.
Gambhir highlighted Afghanistan as an unexpected yet formidable force, capable of giving India a tough time, especially under the distinct conditions of the T20 World Cup. He also mentioned Australia, who are the reigning 50-over World Champions and the 2021 T20 World Cup victors, as a significant threat to India. Furthermore, he emphasized England, the current T20 champions, as a strong adversary, noting their prowess in the game's shortest format.
“Biggest Threat to India in T20 World Cup, Afghanistan in those conditions can be very dangerous, then Australia because they have got Impact players and England because they play T20 cricket as it should be,” Gambhir said.
The 2024 T20 World Cup marks the 9th iteration of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, set to take place from June 4 to June 30, 2024, across venues in the United States and the West Indies. This event will be the inaugural ICC tournament hosted by the United States.
The tournament will feature 20 teams, which will be organized into five groups. The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 8 stage. During the Super 8, these teams will be split into two groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the semifinals.
