In the 2021 IPL season, Patel clinched the Purple Cap, with an impressive haul of 32 wickets from 15 games. This performance also paved the way for his international debut for India against New Zealand on November 19, 2021.

Despite his stellar 2021 season, Harshal faced a dip in form in the 2023 IPL, as he scalped 14 wickets at an economy rate of 9.66. This downturn in performance, coupled with strategic considerations, led to RCB's decision to release him. The franchise, under the guidance of newly-appointed head coach Andy Flower, is looking to revamp its bowling attack. Josh Hazelwood, Wanindu Hasaranga were among the other surprise releases by the franchise as they traded Cameron Green for Rs 17.5 crores from Mumbai Indians.

Harshal Patel's response to his release was one of gratitude and reflection. On social media, he shared a heartfelt message, expressing his appreciation for the time spent with RCB and the support he received during his tenure. He mentioned the special memories and the incredible journey he had with the team, emphasizing that he harbours nothing but gratitude in his heart as he moves forward.

“I want to share some special memories I’ve had with @royalchallengersbangalore . Last three years have been an incredible journey for me. I want to thank everyone in the team who stood by me through thick and thin. As I move on, I have nothing but gratitude in my heart,”

As the cricketing world turns its attention to the upcoming mini-auction scheduled for December 19, 2023. Harshal Patel will be among the players up for grabs.

Harshal Patel's release from RCB marks the end of a chapter for both the player and the franchise. However, it also opens up new opportunities for this talented bowler to make an impact elsewhere in the IPL.
