India's star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had an impressive outing in his first-ever tour Down Under but his efforts went in vain as India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-3. A day after India's six-wicket loss to Australia in the Sydney Test, Jaiswal has now shared his experiences from his maiden trip to Australia for the five-match Border-Gavaskar series. Despite India's 3-1 series loss, Jaiswal emerged as a standout performer, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer in the series and the leading run-scorer among Indian batters.
Yashasvi Jaiswal reacts to India's Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat
Yashasvi Jaiswal made a big impact on his maiden tour of Australia, emerging as India's leading run-scorer. He scored 391 runs across five matches, averaging 43.44 riding on a spectacular century in Perth and two half-centuries. When batting maestros like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were struggling, it was Jaiswal who was shining with the bat in challenging Australian conditions, providing a much-needed bright spot for Team India.
While Jaiswal's individual performances were commendable, they were not enough to prevent India's batting struggles and series defeat, which came after 10 long years. Jaiswal came out with a social media post and wrote that he learnt a lot in Australia but unfortunately the result didn't come their way.
"I learnt a lot in Australia… Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what we had hoped for, but we’ll be back stronger. Your support means everything," Jaiswal wrote in his Instagram post.
Meanwhile, both former England captain Michael Vaughan and Australian opener Usman Khawaja reacted to Jaiswal's post. Khawaja expressed his admiration for Jaiswal's performance, commenting on his social media post with "Love your work, brother."
On the other hand, Vaughan echoed this sentiment, declaring, "You are a superstar... love watching you play."
India suffered a 1-3 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. This victory also secured Australia's place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, where they will lock horns with South Africa at Lord's Cricket Ground on June 25. India, having qualified for the WTC final in the previous two editions, missed out on reaching the summit clash for the third consecutive time.
