Pakistan is looking forward to a fresh chapter in T20I cricket, now under the captaincy of Shaheen Afridi.

Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist recently found himself embroiled in a social media controversy involving fabricated quotes. A post on Facebook falsely attributed a statement to Gilchrist, claiming he called Pakistan "the worst Asian team in Australian conditions," questioning their achievements in the last 35 years in Australia. This post quickly gained traction online.

Responding to the misleading content, Gilchrist firmly denounced the quotes as completely unfounded and untrue. He clarified that he never made such remarks and went on to commend the Pakistan cricket team for their competitive spirit during their recent three-match Test series against Australia. Under the leadership of Shan Masood, Pakistan, though ultimately defeated 0-3, displayed commendable resilience.

"I never said this. Absolutely fake, made up quotes. Pakistan were excellent at times this summer, against a world champion Australian team and very nearly pinched a Test or two," Gilchrist wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

In the series, Pakistan faced a heavy defeat in Perth, losing by 360 runs. However, their performances in Melbourne and Sydney were notably more competitive. Despite this, they couldn't clutch victory, succumbing under pressure in crucial moments.

The Sydney Test was particularly noteworthy as Pakistan, bolstered by Aamer Jamal's impressive six-wicket haul and 82-run knock, took a first-innings lead. Nonetheless, their second innings did not match up, leading to Australia's eight-wicket win.

This defeat marked Pakistan's 17th consecutive Test loss in Australia, highlighting the challenges they face in Australian conditions. Despite these setbacks, Pakistan is looking forward to a fresh chapter in T20I cricket, now under the captaincy of Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Their next challenge is a T20I series against New Zealand, led by Kane Williamson. The first match is scheduled for January 12 at Auckland's Eden Park. In readiness for this new venture, Pakistan announced their playing XI, notably including fast bowler Abbas Afridi, who is poised to make his international debut. The team's focus is now on adapting and performing in the dynamic T20 format, leaving behind their Test series disappointment.
