Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar lavished praise on Rohit Sharma's Test career as the star batter announced retirement from the longest format of the game. 38-year-old Rohit took his Instagram to share a story about his retirement from Test cricket ahead of the upcoming series against England.
Tendulkar took his 'X', formerly known as Twitter, to share a social media post praising the Mumbai star for his contributions in Test cricket. He also recalled handing over his Test debut cap to young Rohit in 2013.
"I remember presenting you with your Test cap in 2013 at Eden Gardens and then standing with you on the balcony of Wankhede Stadium the other day - your journey has been a remarkable one. From then to now, you have given your best to Indian cricket as a player and as a captain. Well done, Rohit, on your Test career, and best wishes for what lies ahead" posted Sachin.
Rohit made his Test debut against the West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, The Mumbai-based batter started his career with two consecutive centuries in his first two matches. He finishes as India's 16th-highest run-getter in the longest format of the game.
Rohit played 67 Test matches, scoring 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, with 12 centuries and 18 fifties. His highest score of 212 came during a memorable home series against South Africa in 2019. He led India in 24 Tests, winning 12, losing nine, and drawing three, with a win percentage of exactly 50. Rohit-led India featured in the World Test Championship Final (WTC) 2023 in England, where Australia defeated the Men in Blue.
Rohit's last Test outing came during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, where he led the side in three matches of the five-Test match series.
