Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been rewarded for his heroics in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, as he has been selected for India's squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England. Notably, the left-handed opener was also included in India's team for the upcoming Asian Games as well.
Vaibhav wants to play Test cricket
Recently, the left-handed opener has opened up on his dream to represent India in Test cricket, saying he has been preparing for it from a very long time, as he uses red ball heavily during his practice sessions.

In an interview with Rajasthan Royals, the 15-year-old opener revealed he wants to play Test cricket for India, as he has practiced a lot with the red ball and will accommodate his batting approach as per the format he is playing.
“I have practiced a lot with the red ball, and I still do. I have also played a lot of red-ball cricket for my state, and I still play it. And I want to play red-ball cricket because I practice it," he added.
While opening up on his aggressive batting style, Vaibhav claimed that he can play as per the demands of a particular format of the game. The young RR opener expressed faith in his ability to change his intent in any format whether its ODIs, Test or T20s.
“The reason I bat this way in this format is that this is what’s needed in this format. What’s needed in red-ball, I will change my batting that way. What’s needed in ODIs, I will change it that way.

The 15-year-old enjoyed a stunning individual campaign with the bat in the recently concluded IPL 2026 season, amassing 776 runs at an average of 48.50 with a staggering strike rate of 237.30. The left-handed opener smashed five half-centuries and one century in 16 games.
