Shikhar Dhawan has not made an appearance in international cricket since December 2022.

Dhawan has not met his son Zoravar for months now.

India's out-of-favour batter Shikhar Dhawan revealed that the reason behind his viral emotional post on his son Zoravar's birthday was to reach him somehow in the era of technology.

On December 26, Dhawan posted a screenshot of his old video call with Zoravar. He poured his emotions in the caption which was shared widely. Even Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar reacted to Dhawan's post.

“I was not in pain. I was just expressing my thoughts. It has been five months, since I have spoken to him, I was just expressing emotions. I am an emotional guy and I was just trying to send love to him, because if I will be sad while thinking about him that negative energy will go to him,” Dhawan said on a podcast with Humans of Bombay.

Dhawan had not idea that the post will go viral. He hopes to see his son someday. He also revealed that he messages him everyday irrespective of whether he gets to read it or not.

“I never realised that this post will go viral. I just wrote it from my heart. I wrote it with a hope that in an era of technology my son might end up reading my post.

“Wherever he is, I hope he is happy hopefully one day he would come and see me. I am in love with him but at the same time I am also detached. I don’t want to push him.

“I write messages to him everyday, I don’t know whether he is receiving those or not, whether he is reading it or not. I don’t have any expectations. I have accepted it. I am a father and I am trying to do my duty. I miss him… I feel sad but I have learnt to live with it,” he added.

Earlier, when Dhawan was separated from his wife, he had a limited window to meet him.

“When I used to go and meet him, he was allowed to meet only twice that too only for two to three hours. I want my son to be around me. I want to hug him,” he further revealed.

Dhawan has not played a single competitive game since Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He will be back in action in IPL 2024 leading Punjab Kings (PBKS).
