International Cricket Council (ICC) cleared the bowling action of Australia spinner Matthew Kuhnemann amid Champions Trophy 2025. He was reported for an illegal bowling action during the second Test against Sri Lanka during Australia's last red-ball assignment before the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

ICC clarified that Kuhnemann’s action has now been deemed to be legal and the left-arm spinner will continue to bowl in international cricket.

The 28-year-old had undergone an independent bowling assessment at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane. ICC said that the amount of elbow extension for all his deliveries was within the 15-degree level of tolerance permitted under the ICC Illegal Bowling Regulations.

Kuhnemann was the pick of the bowlers during his last Test assignment. He picked up 16 wickets in two matches where Steve Smith-led Australia whitewashed the hosts. He made his Test debut for Australia in 2023 and picked up 25 wickets in his five outings.

After winning against Sri Lanka, Australia's next Test assignment will be the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) where they will face South Africa. The grand finale is scheduled to take place from June 11 to 15 at iconic Lord's in London. After that they will travel to West Indies for the three Test match series.
