India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has comprehensively grabbed the top position in the latest ICC Women’s ODI batter rankings. Mandhana, who played a key role in India's ODI World Cup 2025-winning campaign, left behind South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt to become ODI's numero uno. Mandhana maintained her strong position with 811 rating points, benefiting from a slight dip by her rival. Wolvaardt slipped from 814 points to 806 after managing a score of just 31 runs in South Africa’s recent seven-wicket victory against Ireland in the East London series opener.

Smriti Mandhana becomes no.1 ODI batter again
The match between South Africa and Ireland, where the Proteas successfully chased down a target of 210 within 37 overs, also saw other significant movements in the rankings. Half-centuries from South Africa's Sune Luus and Miane Smit were instrumental in the win. This performance propelled Luus five places up to joint 31st in the ODI batter rankings, and ten spots higher to 33rd among all-rounders. Additionally, Irish players Orla Prendergast and Laura Delany saw gains across all three categories, batting, bowling, and all-rounder rankings, while South Africa's seamer Tumi Sekhukhune jumped seven places to 78th in the ODI bowler list after securing a two-wicket haul.

Smriti Mandhana gears up for Sri Lanka series
Mandhana’s current rating of 811 points is a reflection of her stellar performance in the recent Women’s ODI World Cup, where she amassed 434 runs at an average of 54.25. The Indian team has not played any matches since the conclusion of the World Cup. However, Mandhana is set to feature in India's next series, a bilateral engagement scheduled against Sri Lanka later this month.
“I don’t think I love anything more than cricket. For us, the Indian jersey is everything — when you wear it, you automatically leave your problems outside, that one thought resets your whole system. Completing 12 years in international cricket has been a beautiful, tough and absolutely worth it journey. That World Cup victory wasn’t just a match, it was years of trying, failing and picking ourselves up again; we visualised that win for so long that when it finally happened, it gave us goosebumps," Mandhana recently said in a an interview.
