Jasprit Bumrah continues to rule the ICC Test Rankings

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill jumped to ninth spot in the standings

In the latest ICC Test rankings released on May 13, India's premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has retained his status as the world’s top-ranked bowler. Holding the pole position with 879 points, Bumrah continues to lead a pack of elite international bowlers. While he remains the only Indian in the top ten, his teammates Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav follow at 12th, 14th, and 15th respectively.

The batting charts see former England captain Joe Root firmly at the top with 880 points. India’s young batting sensations, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, have both secured spots in the top ten, placing 8th and 9th. Jaiswal currently holds 750 points, while Gill moved up a spot to reach 730 points. The top of the batting list remains highly competitive, with Harry Brook in second place, followed by the Australian duo of Travis Head and Steve Smith.

This consistency in the rankings comes during a quiet period for the Indian Test squad, as the team has yet to feature in a World Test Championship (WTC) fixture in 2026. Their last red-ball appearance was a home series against South Africa back in November. Despite the lack of recent match action, the significant points cushion earned by players like Bumrah and Jaiswal has allowed them to maintain their high standings.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Australian pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins made notable gains, climbing to the second and fourth positions in the bowling department. New Zealand’s Matt Henry also saw a rise in his stock, leapfrogging competitors to claim the third spot.
