Former India head coach Rahul Dravid shared a heartfelt message for Rohit Sharma as a stand after him unveiled at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Dravid who was India's head coach when Rohit-led India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados, praised the opening star for his contribution to cricket. 

Rohit joined a elite list of icons having a stand named after them at Wankhede, namely Sachin Tendulkar, Vijay Merchant and Sunil Gavaskar as a stand named after him was unveiled on Friday in the presence of his family, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president Ajinkya Naik and NCP-SCP chief Sharad Pawar. Rohit Sharma's IPL franchise shared a clip where Dravid can be seen praising Rohit for his contribution.

"Hey Rohit, guess you've hit so many sixes into those stands that they had to name one after you. But no, just congratulations. I'm sure as a young boy going into the iconic Vankadei Stadium, truly one of the great stadiums in the world. I'm sure you would have loved to have played there. I'm sure you would have wanted to have some great performances there. Which you have done. I'm not sure you've dreamt about having a stand named after you. But it has come to that you have one named after you" said Dravid in a video shared my Mumbai Indians.

Dravid believes that it was a reward from the Mumbai and Indian cricket for his cricketing contributions and the legend deserves it.

"I think it's just a reward to your contribution to both Mumbai and Indian cricket.  It's truly well deserved.  Congratulations. I hope it was a great day with family and friends.  Looking forward to seeing a lot more sixes into the Rohit Sharma stand in all the games that you play.  And when I am short of tickets in Mumbai,  now that you have a stand,  I know who to contact" added Dravid. 

Rohit has recently announced his Test retirement ahead of the five-Test match series against England. The legendary batter is currently featuring for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Rohit will now be seen batting at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 21 during the IPL 2025 clash between MI and DC.
