They have gained hosting rights after 33 years.

According to the Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) release of an Invitation for Expressions of Interest (IEOI) document on Saturday, India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are all set to host the 2025 Asia Cup men's edition, which will be played in the T20I format. Team India is the Asia Cup's defending champion, having defeated Sri Lanka in the 2023 Colombo final. As per a report from the Times of India newspaper, This invitation document is for the parties interested in present their IEOI for ACC Sponsorship Rights for the period from 2024 to 2027. The 2023 release of the Asia Cup was mutually facilitated by Pakistan and Sri Lanka as India would not visit Pakistan for the tournament which was held in the ODI format.

India last had the hosting rights of the Asia Cup over thirty years back when the fourth edition of the competition was held in 1990-91. The Men in Blue had crushed Sri Lanka in the Final to retain the title. The TOI report likewise adds that the 2027 version of the men's Asia Cup will get back to the ODI format and will be hosted by Bangladesh. According to the report, "Both the tournaments will include six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and a sixth team determined through qualifying event and comprise of 13 matches per edition."

 

The Sri Lankan women's team defeated India on Sunday to win the Women's Asia Cup 2024. Now the next edition of this tournament which will be held in 2026, will also be played in the T20 format. There will be four editions of the Under-19 men's Asia Cup during this period, with every one of it having 15 matches.

 

The ACC document states "The details, including but not limited to the schedules, dates, years, formats and/or venues, regarding the ACC Tournaments given below are tentative and may be subject to change at any time at the absolute discretion of ACC and without any liability to ACC"
