Story Highlights:

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma missed their dope test last year.

NADA sought explanation in February 2026 from Jaiswal and Shafali but they went unanswered.

India’s young openers – men’s team’s Yashasvi Jaiswal and women’s team’s Shafali Verma – have been issued notices by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for missing dope tests. Unable to explain their ‘whereabouts failure’ the duo’s first ‘missed test’ has been registered by the agency.

Both Yashasvi and Shafali are a part of NADA’s Registered Testing Pool (RTP). They have to be available for surprise dope test and be available during a time slot in the day. Athletes have to inform the agency about their whereabouts change via SMS, mail or the application but the young cricketers failed to do so.

The DCO visited Shafali and on Yashasvi November 7 and December 17 last year respectively. However, none of them were found at the location. On February 18 and 20 in 2026, they were asked to explain their failure to inform NADA about their whereabouts but none of them responded. Months after, NADA took the step to registered their first missed test. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been kept in loop as well.

When the explanation was sought, Jaiswal was on a break after playing a Ranji Trophy 2025-26 game. Shafali was busy playing T20I series on Australian soil.

Will Jaiswal, Shafali face a ban?

If Shafali and Yashasvi’s explanations are not considered legitimate, the first missed test decision will be final. However, they won’t face a ban. A ban up to two years is only imposed on a player when he/she has three missed dope tests recorded in a year.

Jaiswal playing in IPL, Shafali preparing for England tour, T20 World Cup

Currently, Jaiswal is playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. After the IPL 2026, he will be busy playing the one-off Test followed by an ODI series against Afghanistan. On the other hand, Shafali has been picked in India’s squad for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Later this month, the Indian team will fly to England for a five-T20I series which will act as preparation for the mega event.
